I’ll admit that I have a complicated relationship with The OP. I like coming here to watch a game and have an app or two. I think the pizza is highly overrated, but it’s open season for chili. We walked in to watch Iowa State in a heavyweight matchup but the chili was the main event. Now I wasn’t too hyped for this dish so imagine my surprise when I see a state-of-the-art Golden Tee glowing like it’s the Holy Grail across the bar. This chili is either going be off the charts or I must once again apologize to my loyal readers.
I know what you’re wondering, and yes we played. I lost by 6 strokes. That’s all I have to say about that.
I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t too thrilled about this chili. Once it was set in front of us I heard from my left, “I’m not excited to try this”. Join the club. Typically when you can smell it as it hits the table it’s a good thing, but this smelled overwhelmingly like beans. I’m guessing it was due to the fact that there were beans overflowing from the bowl. Along with the beans there were large chunks of ground beef and big ass tomatoes. Yes, those were basically the only three parts. There might have been some chili powder. There’s nothing wrong with plain chili, but let the ingredients get to know each other a little bit before you introduce them to a customer. It felt like the ingredients in my bowl were on their first date.
I don’t mean to come off harsh, but we are out here looking for the best. This was a simple recipe without much flavor. Honestly, it has some potential as a broth but was missing the spark. No one serves chicken broth and tries to pass it off as chicken noodle soup. If OP wants a higher Breggie ranking let’s throw in some spices and break down those ingredients a little more please.
All in all, I don’t feel that this chili disrespected The Golden Tee Philosophy, but it definitely toed the line. If you’re looking for a good atmosphere to watch a game and tee it up in arcade golf, the OP’s chili will suffice. For now it remains towards the bottom of the leaderboard.
Official Breggie Rating: 6.75
