We always enjoy coming to Damon’s. Whether you come to grab a bite to eat or to order a cold beer, this place is truly a family operated sports bar. This spot is crawling with locals who you don’t have to tell about their great food and drink specials. The service is usually on point–even if it’s shoulder to shoulder or just your average weekday night. If you are looking to watch a big game on TV while eating and drinking, this is the place for you. The bar setup is also accommodating for large groups or to get a little rowdy, if that’s more your style.
Now time for the chili, and honestly, this is the one we have been waiting for. The powerful aroma hit us before our waitress even set the bowl on the table. Needless to say we were salivating almost immediately. We feel your pain Pavlov’s dogs. It is fitting that Damon’s is the 4th restaurant we have been to because it delivered in true cleanup hitter fashion; it knocked it out of the park. Crowned with cheese —and onions if you like— this chili will take you to flavor town. (We apologize for the Guy Fieri catchphrase, but it’s honestly spot on. It’s just a shame that dork ruined it for everyone.) You are all aboard with one big ass spoon and a suitcase full of oyster crackers (finally!?) that makes for one smooth ride. Seriously this is not a soup spoon, but a bigger than average spoon that assures you get a bunch of chili in each bite. Championed with ground beef and two different kinds of beans, it’s not overwhelmingly spicy or sweet but even Goldilocks would tell you it’s ‘just right’. The consistency is almost perfect with each bite as hearty as the last. After each mouthful the flavor stays with you until you wash it down with a mini pitcher of Blue Moon to quench your thirst.
We have to admit it was hard to find something we didn’t like about this dish but, being critical is the burden we bought upon ourselves when we started this project. The only apprehension we shared was where to categorize this tasty yet politically correct treat. We do think Damon’s may be too afraid to venture too far one way, where that way leads you to a spicy or sweet endeavor. We personally feel that this establishment can take on this challenge – and we realize that in saying this we are definitely nitpicking. However we only say that because we do recognize this chili as one of the best. Really the only thing missing for us was an electric World Cup performance by the USA.
