Ordinarily when I walk into Whiskey Road there is only one thing on my mind. How drunk do I need to get to break 70 in Golden Tee? However, on this particular night there was something that, believe it or not, took over my number one priority: Chili. Now with it not being on the menu we weren’t positive they even served it. We quickly learned it is not on the menu because the style of chili changes from time to time. This evening they were serving Whiskey Bourbon Chili.

Now don’t get too excited. I can assure you it sounds more appetizing than it tastes. Not to say it’s bad, but I expected more from the name of the chili combined with the reputation of Whiskey Road’s food. With a fitting aroma of BBQ, it is the pulled pork that steals the show in this bowl. It was tender and full of flavor. There was a hint of spice trying to creep through at the end— but the flavor of the meat kicked it back down. I was a little disappointed not to taste any of the bourbon. I expected the whiskey to be a little more pronounced, maybe even adding to the consistency. This leads to my biggest criticism. This “pulled pork chili”(which is what I would name it) could potentially double as a pulled pork sandwich due to its thickness. It comes with crackers, but I assure you they are not necessary. You could eat this with a fork if you wish.

All in all it was a positive experience. It is a unique take on chili that with some light tweaking has a very high ceiling. I look forward to coming back and trying their different varieties.
